Petite isn't simply about making regular pants shorter. Here's what actually matters.
If you're petite, you've probably noticed that finding pants that truly fit can be much harder than it should be.
While some brands may offer a “petite” option, that doesn't necessarily mean the pants are proportioned specifically for a petite frame.
When it comes to jeans and pants, there are a few key features that make a difference:
Inseam length

Let's start with the most obvious one: length. A petite inseam should actually be petite.
Some brands offer “petite” pants with inseams around 30 inches. But for many petite women, this is still much too long.
That's why it's always important to check the actual inseam measurement rather than relying on the word “petite.”
Many of our jeans and pants at DIIMA are intentionally designed in multiple petite inseam options, with measurements listed for each style so you know exactly what you're getting.
Rise

The rise is also very important for petite women. A pair of pants can have the perfect length and still feel completely wrong if the rise isn't proportioned correctly.
The rise determines where the waistband sits on your body, which can affect where your waist sits and how the rest of the jeans fall.
Knee placement

This is another detail that's easy to overlook. Knee placement is designed based on the proportions of the garment. On a regular pair of jeans, the knee is positioned for a longer leg. Simply shortening the inseam doesn't move the knee into a more petite-friendly position.
Details like these are part of what makes petite proportions different from simply making a regular pair of pants shorter.
When you're shopping for petite jeans or pants, don't just look for the word “petite.” Check the actual measurements and pay attention to the length, rise and overall proportions.
