Milan Fashion Week February 2024 Recap

Milan Fashion Week February 2024 Recap

From rain to trash on the runways, Milan Fashion Week certainly wasn’t boring. Some of the biggest names in fashion came together for the week-long event, including Fendi, Prada, Armani, Gucci, Versace and many more.

Despite cooler temperatures, Fashion Month has been heating up. As London Fashion Week wrapped up on February 20, Milan was next to attract designers, models, celebrities and other major fashion figures from around the world. Milan Fashion Week took place from February 20 - February 26 to showcase renowned designers’ latest collections, and set the tone for what we can expect in fashion for fall/winter 2024-2025.

Milan Fashion Week kicked off with designers like Fendi, Diesel, Alberta Ferretti and Roberto Cavalli taking over the runways. Fendi featured chic, sleek looks in neutral earth tones. Repeating elements seen were leather garments, turtlenecks, and knee to thigh high boots. Diesel went all out with faux fur and textured pieces this season, while Roberto Cavalli showcased more feminine pieces with bold patterns.

Max Mara, Prada, Emporio Armani, Moschino, Tom Ford and more took the stage on Thursday. Prada emphasized monochromatic outfits in their collection, with black being one of the staple colors. Shades of pink were also prevalent in a number of pieces. Oversized blazers and lapel coats were a major theme, as well as unique elements such as bows being incorporated into dresses.

Emporio Armani created a memorable show as models strutted across the silver runway in what appeared to be rain falling from the ceiling. Glittering, sparkling pieces were featured heavily in Armani’s collection. The models had umbrellas, and many also carried small hand bags to complete their enchanting, shimmering ensembles.

Tom Ford embraced grunge-chic styles with bold makeup and accessories. Monochromatic outfits in black, shades of beige and silver stood out throughout the show.

Friday also featured major brands and designers like Gucci and Versace. Gucci featured lots of leather jackets, coats and knee to thigh boots in their collection. Prominent colors seen included black, red, and earth tones like cream, beige and olive shades. Versace delivered bold, dramatic looks, many of which incorporated leather and colors like black and red.

Ferrari, Ferragamo and Dolce & Gabbana took over the runways on Saturday. Ferrari also featured bold, monochromatic looks with lots of leather, faux fur and colors like black and red. One striking outfit that stood out to me was an entirely red outfit from head to toe down to the gloves, shoes and handbag. Ferragamo also incorporated lots of leather and monochromatic looks into their collection, as well as elegant dresses, sleek overcoats, and details like feather trim and tassels. Dolce & Gabbana’s collection featured feminine pieces with materials like satin, lace, mesh and chiffon.

Avavav put on a show that garnered a lot of attention, as audience members hurled trash at the models, including wrappers, banana peels, eggs, mustard and coffee cups. Known for her unconventional shows, designer Beate Karlsson drew inspiration from the hate she has received since founding her brand for this show. The show concluded with Karlsson getting a pie smashed in her face as she emerged to take a bow. This may take the cake for one of the most chaotic shows to take place at Fashion Week (pun intended).

Understandably, people have mixed opinions on the Avavav show. Some liked the theme, while others felt it went too far. What are your thoughts?

Last but not least, here were some of our favorite petite celebrities’ outfits at Milan Fashion Week:
